Wildfire Burning in Bayers Lake Area Of Halifax

In response to the fire at Susie Lake in Halifax, police are supporting Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency. To facilitate emergency response efforts, the public is requested to avoid the Bayers Lake area, where evacuations and road closures are ongoing. Reducing traffic congestion will ensure the safe evacuation of residents and businesses. The Department of Natural Resources is addressing a wildfire in the Susie Lake area of Halifax, while Halifax Regional Municipality is managing the evacuation of a commercial building on Dugger McNeil Drive.
Water bombers from New Brunswick have arrived on the scene. An Air Quality Alert has been issued by Environment Canada in Halifax. Individuals downwind of the fire are experiencing decreased air quality. Caution is advised for those with pre-existing medical conditions. The elderly, pregnant individuals, and young children should avoid strenuous outdoor activities and seek medical attention if necessary.
A coordinated multi-agency response is currently in progress to combat a rapidly spreading forest fire located northwest of downtown Halifax. The fire's progression is outpacing containment efforts, with potential threats to roadways, propane tanks, and commercial properties. Crowning is being observed.
Residents in the vicinity are strongly advised to monitor official communications for further updates and instructions. Road closures are being implemented to restrict access to the area. The public is urged to avoid the affected region.
New Brunswick waterbombers were on scene for approximately 3 hour and have conducted numerous targeted water attacks.
It should be noted that
operation of a drone within 9.3 km of the Susie Lake Wildfire will impede firefighting operations. You could
be subject to a fine and/or jail time. When unauthorized drones are present, firefighting aircraft must be grounded,
and crews must suspend operations. This puts lives and communities at great risk.
Restrictions are effective at 6:33 PM Tueday, August 12, until 6:29 PM Wednesday August 13th, 2025. The order was issued by Province of Nova Scotia.

possible so that incidents can be reviewed accordingly.
